Am I Pregnant?
Your body has built-in signals that can point to early pregnancy. If you have recently had unprotected sex and have missed your menstrual cycle, it’s possible you could be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms.
Early Pregnancy Signs & Symptoms
While each pregnancy and woman is different, here are some common thoughts you might be thinking to yourself.¹
-
Have I missed my period?
-
I feel like throwing up.
-
My breasts feel tender.
-
I am getting up to pee more than usual.
-
I feel a little wiped out.
-
I wonder why I’m feeling so moody?
If you’re reading this, it’s likely you’ve noticed signals from your body that have your brain asking, “Am I pregnant?”
It is also possible to still be pregnant even if you think you’ve had your period. On some occasions, you may experience “implantation bleeding,”² which can result in light spotting but is not itself a regular period.
If you’re unsure, the most reliable way to know is through pregnancy testing.
How To Find Out If You’re Pregnant

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms or simply had sex recently without birth control, you’re not alone. Many women find themselves in this same place—needing clear answers and not wanting to guess.
Pregnancy Test
The first step in determining if you are pregnant is taking a pregnancy test, which detects the hormone hCG in your body. When used at the right time, most pregnancy tests are highly accurate in identifying hormone levels consistent with pregnancy.
As a nonprofit organization, Ember Rising offers free, confidential pregnancy tests in Wichita. During your appointment, you’ll meet one-on-one with a trained advocate who will review your results and help you think through your next steps.
If your test is positive, we can help you schedule a no-cost ultrasound referral at a trusted medical provider to confirm how far along you are.
Ultrasound
An ultrasound can confirm the pregnancy’s location and determine how far along you are. This is important information, especially if you are considering your options. Ultrasound can also help identify concerns such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.2
If you need an ultrasound, Ember Rising can provide you with a referral. If cost is a concern, we work to remove that barrier.
